What new information will be available in my CT scan results?
The radiation exposure data shown in your report lets you and your doctor know the level of radiation you potentially received. This information can be helpful to track over time. Terms such as dose length product (DLP) or CT dose index (CTDI) and DLP will be used to show estimated level of radiation.
Why is this new information included in my CT report?
A new state law requires Sutter Health and other health care providers to include approximate radiation dose in CT scan imaging reports for doctors. We're sharing this information with you, too.
Where will the new CT information be found in my test results?
This information will be shared with you as part of your CT test results, which you may receive by mail or online. If you use our online patient services and have a My Health Online account, you will see this information included as a part of your CT scan test result report on the bottom of your test results.
What does this new information tell me?
The radiation exposure data shown in your report lets you and your doctor know the level of radiation the imaging machine estimated you received. This information can be helpful to track over time with your doctor.
What should I do after a CT scan?
Just like you should keep track of your medications, medical conditions and surgeries, it is a good idea to keep a record of your imaging history. With this information, your doctors can partner with you to make informed decisions about future imaging procedures.
For patients with My Health Online, most of your imaging records are available in your personal health record. You can also download a free imaging record at www.imagewisely.org/patients (co-sponsored by Image Wisely and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration).
